Philanthropy

We support three philanthropic organizations each semester through our fundraising events: CASA, the Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation, and the Friendship Fund.

CASA

Since 1989, Kappa Alpha Theta has supported the advocacy work of the Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children or CASA. We believe that all  children have the right to be safe and be treated with dignity and respect.

CASA volunteers work with children who have been removed from the home due to abuse or neglect. A CASA volunteer provides a voice for the child in the courtroom and the community. CASA programs across the country are known by several different names, including Guardian ad Litem, Child Advocates and Voices for Children. Today, more than 75,000 CASA volunteers are serving  240,000 abused and neglected children around the country; however, with its current funding, CASA for Children is only able to serve 35% of those children in need.

As Thetas, we give to CASA in many ways: as thoughtful advocates, committed volunteers and generous donors. As individuals and as a fraternity, we commit ourselves to these children stating: I am a Theta. I am for the child™.

The Theta Foundation

Founded in 1960, the Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation's mission is to secure and manage resources for the educational, leadership and philanthropic programs of the Fraternity and for the scholastic, professional, and service pursuits of its members to help them reach their fullest potential and make a difference in the world.

Awarding more than $1 million annually, the Theta Foundation stands as pillar of support for members of the Fraternity and a partner in its educational and philanthropic efforts. Through partnerships with individuals as well as college and alumnae chapters, the Theta Foundation supports members of the Fraternity with scholarships, non-degree educational and leadership grants, and educational and leadership programs of Kappa Alpha Theta.

Theta Foundation provides resources to individual members and chapters for:

  • Fundraising efforts to support Theta Foundation’s programs.

  • Opportunities to contribute to Theta Foundation’s quarterly grants to National CASA.

  • Establishing endowed scholarships and grants to benefit members.

  • Applying for Theta Foundation scholarships and grants.

The Friendship Fund

The Friendship Fund was created with the idea of "sisters supporting sisters" and is funded by Founders Day gifts. The Friendship Fund provides gifts to Theta's experiencing financial difficulty due to serious or terminal illness, job loss, natural disaster, and other devastating occurrences. The process works by two sisters writing on behave of another sister in need. The Friendship Fund committee then decides on the gift amount, and all information is remained anonymous. The individual receiving the gift has no knowledge of who nominated her, just that there was a sister out their that cared about her well-being. All Theta's are eligible for gifts, weather a member of a college chapter or not. The Friendship Fund is a gift Theta's have available to them throughout their entire life, because being a Theta is a lifelong gift that keeps on giving.
